SUPERMAN SATURDAY DRABBLE #1

THE CUPCAKE by Ashbear02

Aaron sighed and gazed out the window slightly depressed, it was his birthday. And he had no one to spend it with; Haley had taken Jack, moved in with her parents and a divorce was immanent, his own parents were both gone and Sean was in France learning how to make fruit tarts or something.
He was completely alone, because it seemed like even the team had forgotten his birthday. Not one of them had said something. Granted they'd just gotten off a huge case and were all a bit care worn and tired, but still would it have killed them to make a note of his birthday? Either way this meant that if he discounted the half dead call he'd gotten from his brother at 5 am (which he did discount), no one had wished him a happy birthday at all.

He suppressed the urge to sigh and turned back to his paperwork and tried to forget anything but the words on the page. Sometimes he thought too much; this was one of those times but he somehow managed to sink into the legal jargon enough that he'd stopped thinking about anything else when he was jerked back to reality by a soft knock on the door.
He looked up to find Spencer poking his head in, literally just his head through the door. It wasn't comfortable looking, it was also decidedly unpractical. Aaron rose an eyebrow, “Spencer. What can I do for you?”
The younger man smiled, “The others left, something about getting an early night. So I thought it'd be best to give you this now.” Then he swung the door open and held a single cupcake up proudly, “I made it myself. The others burned, but this one worked at least.”
Aaron blinked at him stunned as the lanky man set the paper plate down gently, “Spencer...wha-”
“I didn't forget; but I thought it might make the others feel bad when they realized so I decided to wait till they left to say anything.” He paused and looked conflicted before shaking his head, “They didn't mean to forget, and they'll come in tomorrow and probably bend over backwards to make up for it; but I didn't.”
Spencer sounded a bit proud of that, and Aaron allowed himself to smile. “Hey Spence, want to share a cupcake?”
“First you have to blow out the candle and make a wish.” Spencer made a soft tsk'ing noise and held out a lighter, Aaron just shook his head and did as he was told. Spencer beamed at him, “So what'd you wish for?”
Aaron smiled at him as the taller man settled into one of the spare chairs, “Nothing really.” But all he could think was “you.”
