Rachel Nichols Becomes A Series Regular.

Rachel Nichols has yet to make her Criminal Minds debut, but apparently producers already like what they see.

The former Alias star has been promoted to series regular on the CBS procedural, Deadlinereports. Nichols originally signed on for a three-episode arc and will make her first appearance in the Dec. 8 episode. She will play Ashley Seager, an FBI cadet with an unusual family history who Agent Hotch (Thomas Gibson) invites to help consult on a case.

Criminal Minds announced plans to bring on a new female series regular sometime this season after the exit of original cast member A.J. Cook in September.

When Cook's departure first was announced, fellow cast member Paget Brewster's role was also reduced to 17 out of 22 episodes. Brewster was subsequently asked to appear in all 22 episodes, but opted to work the reduced number of episodes so she could field offers for other pilots.

Now, i know there is a lot of mixed views on this but in my opinion, i am willing to give her a shot. I mean we have done it before with Paget and we knew they would have to replace either JJ or Paget with a new member to even the cast out. I trust the producers and writers of the show, they didn't steer us wrong with Prentiss and if they think she is good enough, then i am willing to go with it. It's not there fault and they are making the best out of the whole situation.

So welcome Rachel to the fandom!

  1. Right. It completely sucks a monkey's ass that AJ is gone and we'll be losing Paget soon, but I'm willing to give Rachel a shot. It's only natural that CM will be bringing in another female lead to even out the ratio. And I've heard good things about Rachel, so I have high hopes for both the actress and character. I can't wait to see what we'll be gaining after suffering the loss of AJ.

  2. I'm willing to give that character a chance too, as long as they don't make her a love interest for Reid...that's my biggest fear about that new character.
Some fans are already shipping her and Reid (well they are not numerous but still...shudder at the thought...).

And can I say that I don't want Reid to get a girlfriend on the show...

So, yes I'm open minded about that character and we should all give her a chance...but not as a possible romantic interest for someone on the team, please !!!

  3. A lot of people forget that CM's people didn't want to get rid of them, rather CBS did. I will miss Prentiss, but ah well. Things change, and although I'm not sure if this will be a good or bad one, I think all the loyal CM gans won't make the show be punished but not watching it anymore. I'll give you a shot, Rachel Nichols!
